SUNDRY RAMBLIMGS

I was doing the laundry the other day and the smell of clean fresh laundry took me back to my childhood when we would run around playing in the yard amidst the clothes drying in the sun. Occasionally one or two small clothes would drop down from the clothesline and we would be yelled at for making the freshly washed clothes dirty.
Then my mind wandered to my teens when with the setting sun, my mom would ask me to bring the laundry in and fold the clothes and put them away in their respective places. I loved folding laundry, but the putting away part was what I hated. I grumbled and made a list of all the most hated chores including drying the dishes and putting them away.
Today as I gently fold my kids clothes and put them away in their closets, I smile to myself and think its not so bad after all. The memories of childhood and adolescence come back to us, sometimes, unbidden and other times, we fondly recall them. The topic at the dinner table in our home usually revolves around my husband’s and my childhood and the kids love hearing our escapades and of course, how we got in trouble.
Whenever I feel lonely and isolated, living so far away from our families, it is these memories that bring a smile to my face. These memories are what keep us close to the hearts of the ones we love and to our home. I hope my children have wonderful memories of their childhood when they grow up too, for it is these memories that make the present bearable-knowing that someday the present will be memories of things past.
Why this post, you ask…its all in the title, sundry ramblings! And yes, my friends and family do think I’m weird because I love doing laundry!!

TP: I think good memories are very important. I have recently been blogging about my Vijay High days and boy we had fun. Interestingly enough my class teacher at VHS has been reading it as well... I ran into her yesterday at a function and she told me "So this is what you guys did behind my back" ...

Sometimes I know what my son is going to do (some tarale kelasa). I let him do it so he can add to his memories.

Great post.

Memory is a way of holding onto the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose.

I am thrilled at seeing the latestpost at Happytraveller!

Waiting for a loads of others. :)

It is ironic that I read this today. Last night I had a dream about my childhood, and just today at lunch I was telling my daughter stories about when I was her age.

Memories are important to me as well, and I hope that I can succeed at giving my child memories as great as the ones my parents gave me.

Hi TP, welcome back to blog writing.
You did a nice writing job on your thoughts and memory recall here.
My thinking is that now you are doing those chores out of love, as a teenager it was work you would rather not be doing.

Keep us posted on your school things. I hope you like to write papers, you sure do write a pretty blog.

Vijay,
I think school days are the best time of life. Its such a great idea to blog about school days. Yes, I too let my kids get away with stuff sometimes:)

RK,
I love the way you said it, "Memory is a way of holding onto the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose." You've summed up my whole post in this one beautiful sentence. And as always thanks so much for being supportive.

Jim,
Thanks so much for your kind words. I will keep you posted about school. In fact, I am a writing tutor and work with other people on their writing assignments. Its a great job. I also love writing my own papers. It is wonderful to see our thoughts rolling out on paper.

Yes, I do recognize your backyard and the deck. You have a good eye for color. Why don't you think of turning pro with a good camera? Stock photography is a good option to earn a few dollars for practically nothing.

Very light but very touchy post. sakkat neevu, allowing your kids to have the lovely memories. Even I keep talking too much about my childhood & increase his J factor :-)
I am sure you would be a nice parent to the kids. Keep writing more, its really so insightful.
Laundry reminds me those beautiful smells which represents freshness, its may the surf excel/ Ariel/ Rin...
We got a new baTTe ogiyo kallu instilled at the back yard recently, laundry list is anytime a topic to talk about...

A laundry list of things to be now written on your blog..

Hi,
Enjoyed reading your post. Really therapeutic. I also love doing laundry so much that my mom says you must've been a 'dhobi' in previous birth. And I love the smell of freshly washed clothes.

It is good to remember those good old days. :))

Hi T.P. Congratulations, you are the 15,004th visitor to my blog [http://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/]!

Now it was a sort of sneaky thing for you to do, not leaving a note or anything. But I forgive you for that, just study hard so we can all be prouder still of you.

I was going to congratulate the 15,000th visitor but that one and the next three got there by Googling and I have no earthly idea who they were. You were the first identifiable visitor after that 14,999.

Thanks a lot. Everynow and then I check to see if you've updated lately. Not yet but I'm waiting.
..
I don't think you have updated to the "New Blogger" yet either. Neither have I. Sometimes it is hard to post using the old.
Before I do that I want to make a CD(s) of my blogs to date.

Travel saga, what happened actually? Account lockout issues or your email id got hacked ?
probably you can start a wordpress blog & write a connecting comment here suggesting your readers to read that from now on.
Or else check with the admin/support team of blogspot, they should surely give you some sort of work around.
Well, will see you once you are here.
Nice to see you on vijay and RK's blog quite often now a days!

Hi TP -- Thanks for the visits and the comment. I'm glad to hear from you, I hope you and school and family are doing fine.

I'll be silent very shortly for a period of time, except perhaps for a short Wordless Wednesday post on
http://jimmiehov6.blogspot.com/
now and then.
..
A final wish, would you please tell me the Indian word(s) for 'goodbye.' Not a forever 'goodbye,' rather a 'goodbye for a while' if that is appropriate.
I feel that English is your primary language but that you know others.
..

At 11:17 AM, Blogger Jim said...

Thanks for the help, TP. You are just on top of things aren't you?
So 'Namaste' usually works for 'hello' and 'goodbye.'But the phrase "Phir milenge" means "we will meet again."
Would it be proper to say "Namaste, phir milenge" meaning "Goodbye, we will meet again?"

I don't have a G-Mail account. I have a Blogger account when Google made me do that before it let me change to the New Blogger which they made me do also.

I opened a new Google account but just used my current e-mail address, a Yahoo one, as my sign-in account.
It all works just fine.

There is a Google program to 'help' with my monitoring, I always exit from it as it slows my computer down. And sometimes it doesn't want to close when I shut the computer down either.
I intend to remove it soon, from the start up program list if I can, otherwise altogether.
